Music
The Warneford Music Department is very active both in and out of the classroom and plays a huge role in school life. During break and lunchtime, it is a hive of activity as pupils across all year groups play instruments and take advantage of the fantastic music facilities that we have. The department boasts 10 fully equipped rooms with quality pianos, PA, a wealth of drum kits and percussion, in-house electric, acoustic guitars and amps, ukuleles and a state-of-the-art music technology suite. Lessons are always very practical and enthusiastically delivered to help all pupils to aim high and develop their own musical potential. Your music teacher Mr. Hanson, along with 13 highly experienced peripatetic teachers, offer a wide variety of instrumental and vocal lessons and have over 120 pupils learning in weekly sessions.

Music Progression Incentive Scheme: To encourage students to learn some of the more 'endangered' instruments, each year we run the progression scheme, meaning any student can access a free instrument and free timetabled, group tuition on the Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone and Violin. These run until Christmas when you can decide to take it further if you wish. Clarinet runs to July. Students simply write their name down on the music notice board to take advantage of this. There are 10 places per instrument. Most of our intermediate players in the concert band began their musical career on their instrument via this great scheme.
Pupils can enjoy a range music clubs including the infamous concert band, smaller rock bands, sing 4 fun, choir, music theory club, beginner groups and many more. Throughout the year there are many concerts ranging from the large-scale Christmas and Easter shows to the lively Party in the Park in the summer. All year groups have their own individual music showcase concerts where pupils are encouraged to perform as soloists or as part of smaller ensembles. Warneford musicians regularly take part in concerts in the local community. We also organise trips to famous concert venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and West End Theatres where students gain amazing experiences watching professional shows. In addition to this we have an international concert tour to Lake Garda, Italy every two years and we stage a full-scale musical production in between those (also every 2 years). In the past we have staged Little Shop of Horrors, School of Rock, Grease, Rock of Ages and We Will Rock You. Whether your child is a musical prodigy or simply looking to begin a new and exciting musical journey, the musical possibilities and experiences that Warneford will provide for them are endless!
