Business Studies

GCSE Business is not just another subject – it's a subject that connects directly to the real world, your future, and the world of work.

Business is all around us.
From the local corner shop to massive global brands like Nike and Apple, businesses shape the way we live, work, and spend. GCSE Business teaches you how these organisations operate, make decisions, and succeed – or sometimes fail.

It’s more than just learning about companies. This subject prepares you for life.
Whether you’re interested in finance, marketing, management, or starting your own business one day – GCSE Business gives you a strong foundation. You’ll gain practical skills like decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and financial literacy – skills that are valuable in any career.

You’ll also begin to understand how businesses affect the economy, the environment, and society. You’ll learn how businesses respond to change – whether it’s economic shifts, new technology, or sustainability challenges.

And if you’re thinking about your next steps – whether it’s A-Levels, BTECs, or an apprenticeship – GCSE Business opens doors to further education and careers in a wide range of fields.

It’s full of real-world case studies. You’ll learn how companies like Apple or even small local businesses grow, compete, and stay relevant in a fast-changing world. It’s also a subject that encourages creativity. You’ll get the chance to design marketing campaigns, write business plans, and come up with innovative ideas to solve business challenges.

Learning in Business isn’t just about textbooks – it’s interactive. There are discussions, group projects, role-plays, and simulations. You’ll get to experience what it’s like to make real business decisions.

Most importantly, business gives you the chance to think like an entrepreneur. You’ll explore how to start a business, spot an opportunity, and understand the risks and rewards involved.

And of course, you’ll learn about the latest business trends – like e-commerce, sustainability, and digital marketing – things that are shaping the future of business today.
GCSE Business is practical, relevant, creative, and future-focused.
It gives you skills that will help you whatever path you choose – whether that’s in business or beyond.

In Year 10, students are given the opportunity to attend a business convention at Disneyland Paris. The Disney Business Convention is a special educational trip where students attend real business seminars and workshops inside Disneyland. These aren’t just any lessons – they’re led by Disney professionals who explain how one of the biggest global companies operates behind the scenes.

You get to see how Disney applies the same business ideas we study in class – things like marketing, customer service, human resources, finance, and branding – all working together to create the Disney magic.

The school also runs a very successful Enterprise Club on Wednesdays after school. This is open to all year groups and pupils are given the opportunity to sell their creations at the Highworth Christmas Market and May Fair each year and raise money for the House Charities as well as invest in new equipment for the club.
