Careers
The Careers Department at Highworth Warneford School aims to provide every student with high-quality careers information as well as specifically teaching the careers and enterprise skills that employers are seeking. All students have access to up to date careers information to research careers pathways and are supported at all stages of their time at the school to make good, positive choices.
In year 7, 8 and 9 all students take part in a Careers and Enterprise Day. They also complete a programme of activities in form time linked to the Careers programme.
In year 10 students have the opportunity to go out on work experience, attend a mock interview and visit local colleges. Local college ambassadors visit in the autumn to support the year 11 students with their college applications. They also receive information about higher education options from local universities. In addition, all students in years 10 and 11 have careers lessons as part of the school’s PSHE programme.
The school actively seeks to work with employers in the local area and this provides many opportunities for our students to undertake visits, take part in competitions and have lessons enriched through the participation of a wide variety of companies and organisations.
The school regularly evaluates the effectiveness of its careers provision and seeks the input of students, staff, parents, employers and outside agencies in this regard.

Careerpilot is a free website that provides impartial careers information to students aged 13-19 in the South West region about all the choices available.

T Levels are new 2-year, technical programmes designed with employers to give young people the skills that industry needs. From 2020, they will give students aged 16 to 18 a technical alternative to A levels and will help them to get a skilled job.
