Learning

Highworth Warneford School offers students a broad and balanced curriculum in line with the recommendations of the traditional National Curriculum.  Students are taught in a range of mixed ability and set classes dependent on the requirements of the subject.  The school operates a two week timetable (week A & B) of 50 one hour lessons.

Key Stage 3 takes place in Years 7 and 8 in the core subjects as an accelerated curriculum to ensure pace and progress, and to facilitate choice in the core subjects for Key Stage 4.

In the foundation subjects, Key Stage 3 is completed during Years 7, 8 and 9 which enables students to experience a broad range of subjects.  During Year 9, students will complete the options process to select their subject courses for study in Key Stage 4.  The majority of courses lead to examinations at GCSE level.

As well as the outstanding learning in lessons, I am extremely proud of the many other opportunities that our fabulous students have at the school. These include exceptional extra-curricular sport, music, drama and STEM activities as well as many other clubs and one-off events. There are also numerous trips and residentials throughout the year, which are designed to give our students additional experiences and enhance their understanding of the world and their place in it.

Warneford is unique in the wide range of leadership opportunities that we give to our students across all year groups. From contributing to the School Council, helping out as a Student Ambassador, all the way to the pinnacle of being a Senior Prefect, these are experiences that develop the confidence and key skills vital for success in later life. These are complemented by our strong links with local businesses and community groups.
